What is the NTUC AI tools subsidy?
The NTUC AI tools subsidy is a funding scheme under the AI-Ready SG initiative. NTUC launched it in February 2026 at the NTUC Career Festival. The subsidy became claimable from 1 May 2026 and runs until 30 April 2028.
It works through the Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP). NTUC members who complete a UTAP-approved AI course can claim 50% of eligible AI tool subscription costs. The reimbursement is capped at $250 per calendar year for members under 40 and $500 per calendar year for members aged 40 and above.
This is the first time NTUC has subsidised software subscriptions, not just training fees. The goal is to help workers access AI tools that boost productivity across writing, coding, design, and research.

⚠ Important: the cap is shared. The UTAP annual cap covers all UTAP claims in that calendar year, including course fees, assessment fees, and AI tool subscriptions. If you claim $100 for a course, your remaining cap for tools is $150 (if under 40) or $400 (if 40 and above).

You must meet all of the following requirements:
Any tier: Ordinary, Associate, or Starter.
Complete a course with at least 75% attendance.
Subscribe to an eligible AI tool within one year of course completion.
Start the subscription between 1 May 2026 and 30 April 2028.
Submit the UTAP claim within 6 months of the subscription start date.
Not have received full funding for the same subscription from another source.

Complete a UTAP-approved AI course

Subscribe to an eligible AI tool
Within one year of completing your course, subscribe to one or more of the 21 eligible AI tools. The subscription start date must fall between 1 May 2026 and 30 April 2028.
Submit your UTAP claim
Log in to the UTAP claims portal using Singpass within 6 months of your subscription start date. You will need proof of course completion and proof of AI tool subscription. Late claims are rejected.
Receive your reimbursement
NTUC processes approved claims and reimburses 50% of the subscription cost, up to your annual UTAP cap. Reimbursement is sent to your registered bank account.

💡 Pro tip: plan across calendar years. The UTAP cap resets each calendar year. If you complete your course in late 2026, you can claim tool subscriptions in both 2026 and 2027. This effectively doubles your available cap for tools.
Important fine print you must know
Before you plan your claims, read these details carefully. Getting any of these wrong will result in a rejected claim.
The AI tools subsidy is exclusively for NTUC union members. Non-members cannot claim. Your membership must be paid up at subscription and at claim time.
You must actively (a) complete a UTAP-approved AI course with at least 75% attendance, (b) subscribe to an approved AI tool for personal use, and (c) submit a separate UTAP claim within 6 months of the subscription start date.
Not all AI tools qualify. Only the 21 tools on the current approved list are eligible. Check the list before subscribing.
The AI tool subscription start date must be between 1 May 2026 and 30 April 2028 (both dates inclusive). Subscriptions starting before 1 May 2026 are ineligible and will be rejected.
The 50% AI tool subsidy shares the same annual UTAP cap as course fee claims. For members under 40, the combined cap is $250 per year. For members 40 and above, it is $500 per year. These are not two separate pools.
